Canning more than veggies ~ start now!
If you'd like to learn how to can and "put up" your own food here's an idea. Start canning NOW. Yes, in the off season. What would you can you ask? Meat! We buy lots of canned tuna and have lots of cans in my inventory. Why? Because we don't live where we can fish for tuna! In the past I have bought canned chicken, and its expensive... but really quick to add to meals because it's precooked. I really like bacon. I mean I REALLY like bacon, but never seem to have the time to fry it up for salads etc.. there have been many times I wished I'd had some precooked and ready to go...Does this sound like you too? Did you know you can "can" bacon, chicken, beef, deer, whatever. Meat is the single easiest thing to can at home! Why? Because there's NO PRECOOKING INVOLVED. You process/can meat in a PRESSURE canner, the meat is cooked during the process! Just pack jars with raw meat process/can per your pressure canners directions. You don't have the stress of canning an entire garden harvest, start with 10 pounds of chicken....AND you don't take up freezer space! Which when the power goes out you won't have to stress over losing your protein stockpile!

Cheap Preps a Friday Review
Today we focus on the much over looked resource of your neighborhood "dollar store". Ours is the national chain Dollar Tree. We have sourced many items from Dollar Tree. Did you know you can order case quantities and pay online, then pick up at your local store? It is an awesome way to get preps with very little hassle and NO SHIPPING charges! We bought these candles in case quantity and they were a mere $1 each. A bargain after we tested them. The product description states at least an 80 hour burn time. 80 hours? That's more than 3 straight days! Not wanting to leave our preps to chance we put it to the test. We were pleasantly surprised by the results and feel this was a wise investment.
Check it out at http://www.dollartree.com/ lots of interesting stuff!

Resolutions?
Happy New Year! A new year usually means we as Americans make New Year Resolutions...What is a resolution? It is something you RESOLVE to do.
It's important that you take some time to reflect and be honest where are your preps? How much of your goals are met for skills and inventory? It's time for a personal inventory and a physical inventory. Are you where you want to be? What would it take for you to be 100% on your prepping goals? What are your goals? Take some time to reflect and put it down on paper!
